Al Ain Sees 35% Surge in New Business Licences, Driven by Construction and Future Economy Sectors

New business licences issued in Al Ain soared by 35% in the first six months of 2026, totaling 2,225 new economic licences. This growth was particularly fuelled by the construction sector and industries associated with the 'future economy', according to figures released during the 1st Al Ain Future Business Forum.

Sectoral Growth Highlights

The construction sector experienced a remarkable 178% increase, with 698 new licences issued. Manufacturing also saw expansion, with 121 new licences, a 10% rise compared to the first half of 2025. Areas aligned with the future economy demonstrated even sharper growth:

• Professional, scientific and technical activities: Surged 263%
• Financial and insurance activities: Rose 125%
• Information and communications technology: Increased 83%

Hamad Sayah Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), highlighted Al Ain's position as one of the fastest-growing regions in the UAE and the wider Gulf. He emphasised the region's strengths in talent, knowledge, innovation, agriculture, tourism, and advanced manufacturing, all contributing to Abu Dhabi's economic diversification efforts.

Attracting Investment and Fostering Growth

The increase in licences underscores growing investor and entrepreneurial interest in Al Ain, confirming its attractiveness and future economic potential. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development aims not just to boost business numbers but to create an environment where companies can establish, grow, and expand both locally and internationally. The recent forum, held under the patronage of Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, brought together over 4,800 policymakers, executives, investors, and entrepreneurs to discuss opportunities in areas such as talent development, advanced manufacturing, agricultural technology, smart mobility, renewable energy, and sustainable tourism.
